The Coleman Barn, located on Jeffries Cross Road in the Pleasant Grove Community of Northeast Alamance County, was established by Joe and Belle Coleman in 1912. Leonard Coleman, the oldest child of Percy “Tooter” (son of Joe and & Belle Coleman) and Julia Elizabeth “Lizzie” Coleman, is the sole proprietor of the barn and surrounding property. The barn was built to house horses and cows and served this purpose for over 70 years. On December 12, 2012, the Coleman farm was recognized by the state of North Carolina as a historical landmark. As part of the recognition, a historical century marker was placed at the barn.
Restoration to remodel the barn for special events began in late 2009 by Leonard and other family members. The barn is now available for parties, weddings, reunions, anniversaries, birthdays, and other special occasions.
